Axel Springer SE’s executive-board page lists Dr. Mathias Döpfner as chief executive officer. The World Economic Forum people page says he joined the company in 1998 as editor-in-chief of the German daily Welt and became CEO in 2002. Warner Music Group’s director biography, cited in the research file, matches that sequence. Those are company and board bios. They are not a court.

This site treats that 1998–2002 sequence as the identity lock. The same person is also spelled Mathias Doepfner and, on ASCII domains, Dopfner. “Matthias” is a different given name and is treated here as a frequent error, not as a second subject.

A Forbes line that placed him at Welt in 1988 conflicts with the company and WEF bios. It is not used as Fact. Journalism from 1982 appears on the WMG bio; this file does not invent a first newspaper title for that year.

The executive-board page, as checked August 22, 2026, still names him CEO and also lists Mark Dekan (commerce) and Claudius Senst (publishing). Board seats and share percentages change. See the successor post for the 2020 Friede Springer transfer.
